College: Roommates

Before leaving for school, I was given several roommates because problems arose. Obviously this made me nervous because I was able to bond with my first roommate, then I was worried about actually living with my second roommate. But when I was assigned my last roommate I was relieved to see we had a couple things in common. I previously wrote about my first week at school, so if you read it you now that my roommate and I didnt hit off at first. But since I didnt know anyone else I decided to hangout with her. True the first two months were great and we were having a blast, but I later learned that I shouldnt have been friends with my roommate. You know the saying about being friends with someone but not being able to live with them? Yeah that applied to me.

There came to a point when I realized that she was "fake". She started hangout out with other people and im not saying im mad at her for that I actually applaud her. But the thing that got to me was that she totally forgot about me. She would hang with them instead and would rub it in my face that she would go out and party with them. Going back to her being fake, she was a poser. I noticed that she acted differently with them then how she did with me. Later when she got into fights with them she would come crawling back to me. She would agree with everything I said even if she disagreed about it first. ie. Roommate: Eww who would possibly wear that? Me: I think it looks nice actually. Roommate: Oh yeah youre right.

Obviously I got tired of this but this is where I made my mistake. I kept on being her friend. I even let her room with me next year with another friend (terrible terrible mistake andrea). She was a good person but she was a horrible roommate. She would come back to the room (loudly) at 3,4,5 in the morning and not appoligize if she woke me up. She would stay up every single night till past 1 in the morning typing loudly on her laptop , and I knowwww she was not doing work. She would never clean the room! Her shoes were allover the floor and I just let her do it. I shouldve stood up for myself but I didnt. So yes it is my fault but I have learned from it.

To those who are iffy about roommates, here is some advice.

  • set some ground rules. seriously, if you dont establish them at the beginning they wont be accepting of them later on in the year.
  • speak up! let them know if something they are doing is bothering you so that you dont have to suffer the rest of the year. In some cases they dont realize that what they are doing is bothering you so let them know.
  • talk to your RA if its truly not working out. Dont suffer the whole year just because your rooming situation sucks. This will take away from having a positive college experience.
  • dont try to cling to cling to your roommate if they are your only friend. i know its hard to make friends and im not saying to not be their friend, but just in case if things dont workout down the road try try try to branch out to people who truly get you.
Roommates are never easy but the important thing is to speak up if something is bothering you and possibly look for a new roommate if the one you have is toxic. Dont worry things will get better but dont let this take away from your first year!

I Survived my first year in College!!

Hey Guys! Sorry for not writing since forevvvver ago, but I was truly busy with school. As the title states, I have finished my freshman year of college!!! No more finals and studying for the whole summer! Since I was nervous before I went away to school and looked all over the internet for advice, I thought I should share my experience from my first week and give some advice! So Ill share my experience and quite possible write other posts filled with advice. Good luck to all those who are going to start their first year this coming fall! It will truly be a great experience!

Well first off, I went away for school. I traveled all the way form New York to Florida! Many people thought I was crazy but going away was the best decision I have ever made for my education. I can go on and on about this so i might make a separate post on that. Anyway, I was really nervous when I got there obvs cause I didnt know ANYONE! I can say for myself that I am an awkward person and im not that comfortable with approaching people so this made it 100000x worse. I got settled into my room and formally met my roommate. It was weird at first because she didnt look like she wanted to get to know me. This I can say led to awkward first few days. But we later bonded over a cockroach incident (yay dorm life). My school had us do a whole week of orientation (killll mee) and so I had to stay with my orientation group. I thought that since I was going to spend most of my time with them, I should probably befriend some of them. I talked to this one girl and tried to get to know her. I asked her if she made any friends/hungout with anyone outside of the orientation. Thats when she made it clear to me that she was selective with her friends and basically didnt want to be friends with anyone right off the bat. This was the rudest thing anyone said to me while I was there and leads to awkward moments when I pass by her on campus. Anyways, I started to hangout with my roommate more because it truly sucked being alone. I kinda regret this but ill write about it later on. Hanging with my roommate led me to meet one of my best friends there! So that I dont regret.

All-in-all, the first week was scary, stomach clenching, and pretty awesome. A lot has happened since but it all added to the experience! I will continue writing about college in my next posts so look out for them!

College: Dorm Life

You made it.
You're in college.
And thanks to all the tv shows and movies, you have a certain picture of what it's like to live in college.
Forget ALL of that.
Living in a dorm is not all what it seems.

The guys on your floor may or may not be assholes. Dont think they will invite you to their parties. If they are nice they will, but if they are douche bags they only invite the "easy" girls.

Dont expect them to lower their volume even if you are busy studying (dorm walls arent the greatest). If you ask them you might get named the bitch on the floor or they will just turn it up more.

The laundry room is the WORST!

You are lucky if you find an empty washer or dryer, so take advantage if you do. The laundry room will get disgusting. I mean underwear and socks everywhere, lint on the floor, etc. Dont be the asshole who forgets about their clothes and leaves them for hours sitting in the washer or dryer, because someone WILL take your clothes out.

Expect to have one type of critter crawling in your room. No matter how clean you keep it (trust me) they will come. So ask your RA to help stop this, my RA was really helpful and the cockroaches are gone!

Lastly, dont expect your roommate to get along with you. Thankfully my roomie an I get along fine, although there might be some issues we work it out.

But that doesnt usually happen. Do make sure to come to some "rules" if you can to avoid future problems.

Dorm Life, you hate it but you actually love it.

The White Hair Situation

Looking in the mirror I am oblivious to the silver thread in my hair.
All I care about is fixing my hair to look somewhat appropriate for class, well actually to impress that cute guy that I bump into on my way back to my room.
Thats when I see it. How can you miss that silver beam of light laying gracefully like a queen above a sea of black. Holy Shit. I just found my FIRST WHITE HAIR.

My first thought was anger towards my mother. Thank you mom for passing this premature white hairs on to me. I even texted her saying just that. Will I have to start dying my hair in 5 yrs? Im only 18 for heavens sake!

Then I thought, wow I need to stop stressing out so much. But it is college, and stress comes free with the deal.

Thirdly I thought, wow im sooo old.

Lastly, I thought : FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS

After I calmed down and came back to the real world, I laughed. Who cares if you have a white hair? Everyone gets them. Theres no need to stress over it because there are more problems in the world that are wayyyy more important.

So bring it on life. Im ready for my head full of white hair (as i cross my fingers and hope this happens sometime in 30 more yrs).

To all of you experiencing this: Life goes on, so you should too.

College : a small update

I'm at  that point in a teens life when I have to go away to this place called college. Normal teens pick a college that fits their needs but that is in their home state. I on the other hand, picked a college that is on the other end of the country. To make it even more crazy, my parents chose to drive down to my college, which is 18 hrs away *yippee...* .

So here I am sitting in my dorm after all these orientation workshops are finally done. It's been great so far and I've had a blast. But one thing that sucks is that I havent really made any friends. Well if you count talking to my roommate (does that count?) then I have one. That is why I cant wait for classes to start so I can actually get to meet more people. So if you just started college and you dont have friends, dont worry you are not alone trust me!
